To protect your account, F&M Bank monitors ATM and debit card transactions for potential fraudulent activity. Typical signs of fraudulent activities may include:
If we suspect fraudulent ATM or debit card use, we will be calling you to validate the legitimacy of the transaction(s). Your immediate response to our call is critical, so that we can eliminate any potential risk and avoid placing restrictions on the use of your debit card(s).
Our automated call will ask you to verify recent transaction activity on your card.
You will not be asked to provide your full debit card number, account number or any personal identification.
If you receive a call stating there is an issue with your debit card and/or debit card transactions and the caller requests financial and/or personal information, the call is not from F&M Bank. Never provide your financial and/or personal information in response to a call that was not initiated by you to one of our published contact numbers.
Our goal is to minimize your exposure to risk and the impact of any fraudulent activity on your account. Our goal is to minimize your exposure to risk and the impact of fraud. To ensure we can reach you whenever potential fraud is detected, be certain to keep us informed of your current phone number and address at all times.
Additionally, if you are planning any travel abroad, please inform us at (800) 645-4199 or contact your branch office so that purchases and withdrawals made overseas will not be flagged as suspicious. Informing us of travel overseas will ensure uninterrupted use of your Debit Card.
Finally, it is important to be diligent in monitoring your card account activity. Please contact us immediately at (800) 645-4199 if you identify any fraudulent transactions.
Some of our customers have experienced problems with their Debit cards being rejected during times of foreign travel. If you plan to travel abroad and intend to use your F&M Bank Debit Card during that time, please let us know. Your Debit cards are automatically protected by a fraud detection service that reviews transactions as they are processed. To save potential time and hassle during your trip, please contact us prior to your departure to verify your travel dates, destination(s), and the contact information to be used while you are away. F&M Bank will notify its fraud detection service of your travel plans and your intended destination(s). If this measure is not completed beforehand, it is possible you may find your card blocked when you attempt to use it.
It is important to note that, even if the proper precautionary measures are taken prior to departure, the use of your F&M Bank Debit card may still prompt a phone call from our fraud detection service during your travel time. Foreign transactions are watched particularly closely due to the high volume of fraudulent activity that takes place overseas. Our fraud detection service is an automated service. Should unusual patterns in purchase behavior start to appear, you will automatically be notified. Any calls generated will occur only if activity on the account scores in such a way to generate suspicion. In those cases where a phone call is received from our fraud detection service, a return call to F&M Bank will be essential in order to prevent your card from being blocked for use.
It is possible that we may not be able to reach you at a time when we have concerns about transactions giving the appearance of fraud. In such cases, we may need to take preventative action and block your card until you can be reached in order to prevent potentially fraudulent activity from taking place. A return call to F&M Bank will be required in order to confirm your transactions and remove the block from your card.
When traveling overseas, we recommend using a credit card for purchase transactions. However, a debit card can also be used for the majority of transactions undertaken.

Phishing is a form of online fraud which occurs when someone poses as a legitimate company to obtain sensitive personal data and illegally conduct transactions on your existing accounts. Usually it occurs in the form of fraudulent emails, text messages, or phone calls that appear to come from legitimate sources. These communications ask customers to verify personal information or link to counterfeit web sites that appear real or ask you to call to a phone number to reactivate your account.
Watch out for emails, calls, text messages, or other communication that urge you to act quickly because your account may be suspended or closed, or to update your personal information.
Always keep in mind that F&M Bank will never send emails or other messages that require customers to send personal information to us via email, website links, pop-up windows. Any unsolicited request for F&M Bank account information you receive through emails, web sites, text messages, or other communication should be considered fraudulent and reported immediately to an F&M Bank representative.

F&M Bank will NEVER ask for sensitive information, such as account numbers, Social Security number, Access IDs, passwords, or personal identification numbers (PIN), via email. Please be aware that your “basic” credit report is available to you at no cost. If you want to know your actual “credit score” or wish to sign up for a credit monitoring service, the credit bureau that you select will charge a fee for the additional service. The basic credit report itself is very thorough. Upon review, if you find anything that appears incorrect in your personal credit report, the website provides procedures for reporting the error to the credit bureaus.

Be positive you know with whom you are speaking on the phone BEFORE giving out credit card or bank account numbers. F&M Bank will NEVER ask for your ATM or Check Card PIN (personal identification number) for any reason! And we will NEVER contact you via e-mail regarding sensitive financial information. If you receive a phone call from someone identifying himself or herself with F&M ... and you are unsure of the person's identity ...hang up and call us back to verify the authenticity of the person with whom you are speaking. Keep your identity SECURE!
If your wallet is stolen, call the three national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and Social Security number. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit.
